THE DEPUTY MANAGING DIRECTOR OF JICA-AFRICA DEPARTMENT GETS ACQUAINTED WITH ABIDJAN PORT IN ITS NEW CONFIGURATION

A delegation of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) led by Mrs UCHIDA Kumiko, Deputy Managing Director, Africa Department visited the development projects of Abidjan Port on Saturday 14 October 2023.

On this occasion, the delegation visited the second Container Terminal, the new Ro-Ro Terminal belonging to TERRA, and also the new Grain Terminal, the fruit of cooperation between PAA and JICA. The infrastructure was commissioned on 30 May 2023. The works carried out on these facilities enable this new terminal, built on 9,5 hectares to provide one 11 m deep quay (against 9m previously) and to handle large vessels with load capacity ranging from 55000 to 70000 tons.

Mrs UCHIDA Kumiko expressed her appreciation with the full operation of the Grain Terminal. She emphasized that this terminal will inevitably allow the Port of Abidjan to be a Grain Hub so as to support Côte d’Ivoire in its food resilience.

Note that the visit took place on the sidelines of the JICA’s regional seminar held in Abidjan from 16 to 20 October 2023.
