THE DIRECTOR GENERAL OF THE INTERNATIONAL HYDROGRAPHIC ORGANIZATION MEETS WITH THE ABIDJAN PORT AUTHORITY
During his technical visit to Côte d’Ivoire, a delegation from the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO), led by its Director General, Mr. John NYBERG, was received on Friday, January 17, 2025, by Mr. Hien Yacouba SIÉ, Managing Director General of the Abidjan Port Authority (PAA). The delegation was accompanied by Commander Claver GAGUIÉ, representing the Maritime Organization of West and Central Africa (OMAOC).
Taking advantage of this courtesy visit, Mr. John NYBERG thanked the Abidjan Port Authority for its assistance during this important working mission in Côte d’Ivoire. He also discussed strengthening the partnership between PAA and IHO.
He emphasized that this technical visit to Côte d’Ivoire focused on developing regional training programs in hydrography, physical oceanography, and maritime, port, lagoon, and river cartography in West and Central Africa. Supported by the IHO’s capacity-building program in 2025, this project aims to promote training in hydrography, physical oceanography, and marine cartography in this region of Africa.
Expressing his satisfaction with the interest shown in PAA, which represents Côte d’Ivoire at the IHO, Mr. Hien SIÉ assured his guests of the institution’s continued support in implementing their various initiatives both in Côte d’Ivoire and on a regional scale.
During its mission, the IHO delegation met with several national and international stakeholders, including the Ministry of Transport, the Permanent Secretariat of the Interministerial Committee for State Action at Sea, MOWCA, the National Navy, the Regional Academy of Marine Sciences and Technologies (ARSTM), and the Oceanographic Research Center (CRO).
Following this meeting, the stakeholders of the IHO’s technical visit to Côte d’Ivoire held a summary meeting at the headquarters of the Abidjan Port Authority.
