DISCOVERY TOUR OF THE ABIDJAN PORT’S NEW GRAIN TERMINAL BY MEDIA MEN
As part of a press tour named: ‘’2023 PRESS TOUR. The JICA’s approach to ensure food security in Côte d’Ivoire ‘’, initiated by the Japanese International Cooperation Agency, a delegation of Côte d’Ivoire’s journalists visited the new Grain Terminal of Abidjan Port, on Wednesday 26 July 2023.
Led by Mr TSUJISAKA Ayako, Head of JICA Abidjan in charge of Governance, the media men were received by Mr Stephane FALLY, Head of the Department of the Direction of Engineering and Projects Management of Abidjan Port Authority, who also is responsible for the construction project of the new Grain Terminal.
During the visit, Mr Stephane FALLY made a presentation of the new infrastructure, a product of the collaboration between Côte d’Ivoire and Japan which commenced in 2020 and commissioned on 30 May 2023. The terminal which is built on an area of 95 ha with 700 m quay length and 13.5 m draught accommodates, since its commissioning, vessels carrying 40 000 to 50 000 tons of bulk food as against 30 000 tons previously.
Mr Fally also indicated that this modern terminal was constructed for a double purpose.
Firstly, it enables Abidjan Port to meet the international standards with regard to the reception of conventional vessels and bulk carriers with a loading capacity of 70 000 tons of cargo. The terminal also enables Abidjan Port to play a vital role in food security as well for Côte d’Ivoire as for the hinterland countries in West Africa, which are in growing need of grain products.
