FIGHTING ACCIDENTAL SEA POLLUTION IN THE MARINE ENVIRONMENT
On 7 December 2023, a pratical Fight exercice against marine pollution took place on the Lagoon Water area in Abidjan Port in order to enable the 25 trainee the end training,originating from 11 countries of the Gulf of Guinea ( Cote d’Ivoire ,Cape verde, Angola, Mozanbique, Guinea Bissau, Guinea Conakry, Gabon, Benin, Mauritania, Sierra Leone, Gambia) to get acquainted with this delicate exercise.
This test follows a training session which took place from 04 to 06 December 2023 at the inter-regional Maritime Security Institute (ISMI) housed within the Regional Academy of Marine Science and Technology, Abidjan ( ARSTM).
It consisted in containing by means of flooting boom oil slick accidentally spilled in the waters,so as to prevent it from spreading over a larger area.
The implementation of this operation enabled the listeners to get acquainted with the marine oil pollution control equipment.
At the end of the exercice, Lieutnant Colonel AMANI Kouassi Alexis Head of the Department of Hazardous Material and Disaster Management Representing Colonel Coffi Emmanuel,Abidjan Port’s Harbour Master expressed the appreciation of the Port Authority to the Heads of ARSTM and ISMI and also to the experts of CEDRES ( experts in water accidental pollution)from France.
