THE FISHING TERMINAL OF THE ABIDJAN PORT, A MODERN PLATFORM THAT CONFIRMS ITS LEADING PLACE IN WEST AFRICA ABIDJAN, 1st TUNA PORT IN SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA
The fishing terminal of the Abidjan Port extends from quay 15a, close to the RORO quay, over a surface of 223,707 m2 of land in the bonded area and over a surface of 82,543 m2 in the non-bonded area. With 1,443 linear meters of quay, more than 944,000 tons of seafood products, including nearly 350,000 tons of tuna, were processed there in 2022.
The fishing terminal platform is subdivided into two areas. These include:
AN INDUSTRIAL FISHING AREA RESERVED FOR THE FOREIGN FLEET WITH THE FOLLOWING FEATURES:
- A 450 m long and 160 m wide breakwater;
- 1,110 m of quay;
- 9 to 11 m draught;
- A capacity of 15 ships in simultaneous commercial operations;
- A net dock of more than 17,000 m2 for the repair and storage of fishing nets near the RORO quay;
- Professional boatmen for the repair of damaged fishing nets;
- The possibility of repairing five (05) damaged fishing nets simultaneously;
- A space fitted out for the manufacture of Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs);
- A platform for the drainage of refrigerated containers intended for export;
- A fresh fishing area allocated to local fishing with 412 m of quay and a draught of 4 to 5.5 m.
A FRESH FISHING AREA COMPOSED OF:
- A sorting and auction hall of 3,094 m2 for the auction of fresh fish;
- Three (03) seafood processing units (SCODI, AIRONE, BPE);
- One (01) unit́ of ice factory with a capacity of 130 tons per day (SOCEF);
- One (01) fish meal production unit (MBPCI);
- Two (02) main repair companies, available for fishing vessels (ATHEMAN, MANCI);
- Hotel and catering facilities for seafarers (SEAMEN'S CLUB, GARGOTES);
- An efficient dockworker workforce for the landing of frozen fish products from the foreign fleet;
- Two structures specialized in the landing of fresh fish products (SIDSD, UDPF);
- Two operational weighbridges;
- Complete equipment for bunkering (water, electricity and fuel);
- Ten (10) hectares of land filled in for the establishment of industrial units.
ABIDJAN PORT FISHING TERMINAL, 1ST PRODUCER OF CANNED TUNA IN AFRICA
The two large canneries located at the Fishing Terminal produce about 60,000 tons of canned food and employ more than 3,000 people, the majority of whom are women.
Some 30 companies licensed as fish importers are involved in the sector and are supported by a network of cold stores with over 90,000 tons of storage capacity.
The fishing terminal is able to accommodate all types of fishing vessels. It not only provides good working conditions for operators in the sector, but also additional space for the establishment of industries.
