GENDER AND DEVELOPMENT : ABIDJAN PORT AUTHORITY NOW COUNTS GENDER ENGINEERING EXPERTS AMONG ITS WORKFORCE

Ten PAA’s employees,members of the 6th class of Chaire UNESCO Gender Engineering Experts"Water Women and decision making power received their certificate of completion.These are 6 female workers and 4 male workers at various levels of responsibility who saw their efforts crowned with success after 9 months of training."

The graduation ceremony took place on Saturday 09 December 2023 at espace Latrille Events in Cocody 2 Plateaux, in the presence of her Excellency KANDIA CAMARA, president of the Ivorian Senate ,Godmother of the 6th class ; of the Minister Mrs Euphrasie KOUASSI YAO ,Holder of the UNESCO Chair « Water ,Women and Decision Making power» and several other political,diplomatic officials and officials from the private, public and parapublic sector.

In her introductory address,Mrs Euphrasie KOUASSI YAO firstly paid tribute to his Excellency.

 Mr Alassane OUATTARA,Head of state who works for the promotion of female skills through a normative and regulatory framework which enables to guarantee equal opportunities between men and women.

Then,she thanked and congratulated all the partners who desired to associate their image to gender  promotion in  Cote d’Ivoire,namely Abidjan Port Authority

Speaking to the ¨ Ambassador¨ for gender,she urged them to implement in their daily activities the skills that they acquired during the training so as to make a difference and transform their respective environments.

Taking the floor on behalf of Mrs Kandia CAMARA, Mrs Makani DIABY,vice president of the senate gave some advice on usage to the 71 new experts.e.s from various business sectors,before conveying the warm congratulations of their godmother and ensured them of her support.

The participation of the Abidjan Port Authority’s workers in this training reflects the vision of Mr Hien Yacouba SIE ,Managing Director who make gender promotion one of the basis of his managerial  policy.

As a recall,he had been the godfather of the fifth class in 2022.

The chaire UNESCO « water women and decision making power » which was granted to Côte d’Ivoire in 2006, falls within the framework of UNITWIN International/UNESCO Chair on Water Resources,Sustainable Development and Peace.

The Chair aims mainly at promoting an integrated sytem of reseach activities,training,information and documentation in the field of gender,water,escact,natural and technological sciences and social sciences in order to implement the objectives of sustainable development.
