INTERNATIONAL CRUISE TOURISM: THE PORT OF ABIDJAN CONFIRMS ITS ATTRACTIVENESS WITH THE CALL OF THE NORWEGIAN SUN
The Port of Abidjan welcomed, on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, the cruise ship Norwegian Sun, operated by Norwegian Cruise Line, marking a new milestone in the development of maritime tourism in Côte d’Ivoire.
The vessel arrived with 2,550 people on board, including 897 crew members, for a 24-hour call at the Port of Abidjan. Measuring 258.47 meters in length and standing 59.5 meters high, the Norwegian Sun features 13 decks and numerous leisure and dining facilities, offering its passengers an experience combining comfort, relaxation, and discovery.
Through this call, Abidjan established itself, for a day, as an attractive and welcoming destination for cruise tourism stakeholders. Passengers had the opportunity to discover several emblematic sites of Côte d’Ivoire’s heritage, notably the National Costume Museum of Grand-Bassam and the Bingerville Botanical Garden, through sightseeing tours showcasing the country’s rich cultural and natural heritage.
This new call also demonstrates the ability of the Abidjan Port Authority to accommodate large vessels under optimal conditions of safety, security, and operational efficiency. It reflects the continuous efforts undertaken to modernize port infrastructure and improve the quality of services provided to international cruise operators.
Through the gradual development of cruise traffic, the Port of Abidjan actively contributes to promoting Côte d’Ivoire as a destination while strengthening its position as a leading maritime and tourism hub in West Africa.
