INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR WOMEN IN MARITIME: THE ABIDJAN PORT AUTHORITY AND THE NETWORK OF PROFESSIONALS WOMEN IN MARITIME AND PORT OF CÔTE D’IVOIRE COMMITTED TO A MORE INCLUSIVE AND HIGH-PERFORMING MARITIME SECTOR

On the occasion of the International Day for Women in Maritime, established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and celebrated every May 18, the Abidjan Port Authority (PAA) hosted, on Monday, May 18, 2026, a ceremony under the theme:

“From Policy to Practice: Promoting Gender Equality for Maritime Excellence.”

Organized by the Network of Professional Women in Maritime and Port Sector of Côte d’Ivoire (RFPMP-CI), whose national presidency is held by the Abidjan Port Authority under the leadership of Dr. Titi PALÉ épouse KOUMAN, Director of Commercial, Marketing and Communication of the PAA, the event brought together several stakeholders from the maritime and port sectors to discuss issues relating to women’s leadership, inclusion, and performance in maritime professions.

In her address, Ms. Raphaelle ANY-GRAH, Deputy Director of Audit, Control and Quality at the PAA, representing the President of the Network, emphasized that women’s leadership has become a genuine strategic lever for transformation and competitiveness within the maritime and port sector.

She also conveyed Dr. Titi PALÉ épouse KOUMAN’s message of encouragement to all women in the sector, urging them to have greater confidence in their abilities, to be bold, and to continue striving for excellence.

The ceremony featured a conference led by Lieutenant-Colonel Alfred LATTE and Lieutenant-Colonel Isabelle AKAHI, both Deputy Directors within the Directorate of Maritime Operations, Security and Environment of the PAA, on the theme:

“From Policy to Practice: How to Build an Inclusive and High-Performing Maritime Sector.”

The discussions highlighted several key challenges related to the advancement of women in the maritime sector, including inclusion, competitiveness, resilience, training, and mentorship.

The celebration was also marked by inspiring testimonies from women working in various professions of the blue economy. Female dockworkers, heavy equipment operators, pilot boat mechanics, and transmission officers shared their experiences, daily challenges, and commitment to port performance.

Representing the Acting Managing Director of PAA, Mr. Kassoum TRAORÉ, Mr. Dah SANSAN, Director of Administrative, Legal Affairs and Litigation, commended the Network’s commitment and the remarkable work accomplished by its President in promoting women’s leadership within the maritime and port environment.

He reaffirmed the Abidjan Port Authority’s commitment to fostering an increasingly inclusive and equitable working environment that promotes and values female human capital.

Through this celebration, the Abidjan Port Authority and the Network of Professional Women in Maritime and Port of Côte d’Ivoire reaffirm their shared commitment to building a maritime sector that is more inclusive, more competitive, and increasingly driven by excellence, merit, and diversity.
