INTERNATIONNAL DAY FOR WOMEN IN MARITIME (18 MAY 2023) GLOBAL CONFERENCE OF WOMEN ASSOCIATIONS OF THE MARITIME INDUSTRY (WIMA) OF IMO
18 May 2023, was the opening on the occasion of the second edition of the International Day For Women in Maritine , of the world Conference of Women Association OF the Marime Industry ( WIMA) of the International Maritime Organization ( IMO)
This second edition on the theme¨Mobilizing Networks For Gender Equality¨ was the opportunity for Mr Kitack Lim Secretary General of IMO to recall the actions of the Organization to support gender equality through its women in maritime programme, seeking to empower women in the sector through training, visibility and recognition.But also to underline that collaboration and networking in the maritime sector are ways to achieve gender equality.
This great international event provided the opportunety to present to the women in maritime the programme ¨women at Sea¨through the video presentation¨Women in Maritime Can¨ but also to make a presentation of the Women Association of the Maritime Industry(WIMA)
To this end ,Mrs Florentine Guihard –Koidio, Head of the Division in charge of Customer Relation and Quality in the Direction of Digital Information System in Abidjan Port Authority,made an assessment,as the regional Chairwomen of the Network of Maritime and Port Women Professionals in West and Central Africa ,
The two days of the event were filled with a series of speeches and round tables on the several themes ¨Men as allies for gender equality¨ ¨Leveraging the WMU/ IMLI networks and mentorships ,¨breaking the glass ceiling¨and ¨WIMA IMO GENDER and WISTA International :futur Opportunities for cross-cooperation¨
These days provided a wealth of sharing experiences in order to comply with the United Nations Subtainable Development Goal 5 : gender equality #WomenInMaritimeDay
