JOURNALISTS IMMERSING THEMSELVES IN THE ASSETS OF THE SECOND CONTAINER TERMINAL OF ABIDJAN PORT
On Friday 25 November 2022, a delegation of journalists came on a guided tour to the second Container Terminal of Abidjan Port prior to its inauguration. The journalists visited the terminal to get acquainted of the assets of this ultra modern innovative and environmentally friendly infrastructure which had started its commercial operations on 02 November 2022
During the discussions with the press, Mr NDOLI Kouadio André, Director of Engineering and project Management, representing Mr. Hien Yacouba SIÉ, Managing Director of Abidjan Port Authority made a presentaion of the Terminal which covers or area of 37.5 Ha ; 1100 m quay length, with a draught of 16 m and providing advanced facilities for the handling of 1.5 million TEUs containers annually
Moreover he added that the new terminal which was built together with the widening and deepening works of Vridi Canal and the construction of the RO-RO terminal, has three (03) quay berths which can accomodate 3 vessels of 350 to 400 m long.
As regards investment, Mr NdOLI indicated that this new platform required a global investment of 596 billion CFAF of which 334 billion for infrastructure funded by Abidjan Port Authority and 262 billion CFAF for the superstructures funded by Bollore Ports and APM Terminals, the concession holder
In his statement Mr KOEN DE BACKKER gave the information that TC2 Terminal will be labelled « green terminak » as it meets the required environmental standards. All handling equipment will be supplied with electricity in addition to the implementation of digital solution so as to dematerialize all the process on the state-of-the art terminal.
According to Mr. Eric COEVOET, the operation Director of Côte d’Ivoire Terminal this new infrastructure is characterized by several innovations including the automated management of gatehouses and the implementation of an online appointement system for the delivery and the removal of containers of containers at the earliest time and in complete safety. The other major innovation is the complete dematerialization of the billing system and the possibility of online and remote payment.
During this press visit, the delegation of journalists toured the automated booths, the handling equipment, the workshop equipped with charging points, electric trucks, the sewage treatment plant.
These men and women in the media have been able to see for themselves the scope of works achieved on the second Container Terminal, which makes Abidjan Port a Reference Hub for Transhipment and a true drive for competitiveness.
