Launch of the 17th edition of the contest "Miss Mathematics" PAA COMMITS TO SUPPORT THE MATHEMATICAL SOCIETY OF CÔTE D'IVOIRE FOR THE FIVE YEARS TO COME

The Top Management of the Abidjan Port Authority (PAA) served as the setting, on 27 April 2023, for the official launch of the 17th edition of the contest "Miss Mathematics" Côte d'Ivoire. 

This competition which is an initiative of the Mathematical Society of Côte d'Ivoire (SMCI) chaired by Professor Saliou TOURÉ, aims to encourage young girls to be more interested in scientific subjects, particularly mathematics, in order to acquire solid foundations to play their full part in the development of the country.

The Port Authority has committed during this ceremony to sponsor the contest "Miss Mathematics" Côte d’Ivoire for the next five years. This commitment was reflected in the signing of an agreement between the Abidjan Port Authority and the Mathematical Society of Côte d'Ivoire.

"Aware of the stakes of the promotion of mathematics for the future of our country, the state-owned company Abidjan Port Authority, with its proud appearance recovered thanks to the vision of the Head of State HEM. Alassane OUATTARA, has decided to accompany the SMCI, to instill a taste for mathematics in our children ... as a corporate citizen, the PAA has a duty to support the promotion of excellence in education," pointed Mr. Hien Yacouba SIÉ, Managing Director of the PAA, who said he was pleased to associate the image of the company he manages with this prestigious competition.

To his goddaughters, the Managing Director gave wise advice, so that they participate in turn, to the blossoming of a female intellectual elite in Côte d'Ivoire.

As for Professor Saliou TOURÉ, he praised the support that the PAA brings to the Ivorian educational system, an action which is in line with the will of the President of the Republic to make 2023, "the Year of Youth". 

Continuing, he expressed his gratitude to the sponsor, Mr. Hien SIÉ and the Minister of National Education and Literacy, Mrs. Mariatou KONE, represented at this ceremony by Mr. KOUAMÉ Koua Jacob, Director of School Life.

For Mr. Hilaire ATINDEHOU, President of the "Miss Mathematics" Commission, this contest aims not only to create a sound emulation between secondary schools, but especially to help girls overcome their "fear" of competing with boys, when it comes to mathematics.

The candidates for this competition are pupils of the 4th year and final year C and E of the secondary school. The tests will be held on 27 May 2023 and the results will be known at the award ceremony scheduled for 27 July 2023.

It’s worth noting that the launching ceremony was attended by the President of the PAA Board of Directors, Mr. Abdou TOURÉ.
