THE MANAGING DIRECTOR OF THE ABIDJAN PORT AUTHORITY MEETS WITH THE HONORARY CONSUL OF CÔTE D’IVOIRE IN ANTWERP
The Managing Director of the Abidjan Port Authority (PAA), Mr. Hien Yacouba SIÉ, granted an audience on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, to the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire in Antwerp, Mr. Marc VOS, who was visiting Côte d’Ivoire. He was accompanied by Mr. Jean-Jacques KOFFI, First Counsellor at the Embassy of Côte d’Ivoire in Belgium.
The meeting was part of efforts to strengthen economic cooperation between Côte d’Ivoire and the Kingdom of Belgium, particularly through the development of port cooperation between the ports of Abidjan and Antwerp.
During the discussions, the newly appointed Honorary Consul presented his priorities, which focus on the development and consolidation of bilateral relations, with particular emphasis on synergies between the two port platforms. He highlighted the strategic role of Antwerp, one of the most dynamic economic hubs in Northern Europe, hosting a leading European port both in terms of size and traffic volume, and ranked first in Europe for trade with Africa.
In response, the Managing Director of PAA recalled that the ports of Antwerp and Abidjan already maintain close cooperation, particularly in the areas of training and exchange of expertise.
He also emphasized the consolidation of trade flows between the two ports, noting the significant growth in traffic between the platforms and specifying that Antwerp remains the main entry point for vehicles imported through the Abidjan Port.
Mr. Hien Yacouba SIÉ further reaffirmed the PAA’s willingness to deepen this cooperation within the framework of a win-win partnership, while recalling that the Abidjan Port remains the main maritime gateway to the West African region.
