THE MANAGING DIRECTOR OF ABIDJAN PORT AUTHORITY REWARDS THE 2024 WINNERS OF THE MISS MATHEMATICS CONTEST.

On Thursday 18 July 2024, “the Kodjo Ebouclé” Auditorium of the “Palais de la Culture de Treichville” vibrated to the rythm of the Award Ceremony for the winners of the 18th edition of the “Miss Mathematics” contest.

This celebration of scientific excellence, which kept its promise was placed under the high patronage of the President of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire, His Excellency Mr. Alassane OUATTARA and under the Chairmanship of the Managing Director of Abidjan Port Authority (PAA) Mr. Hien Yacouba SIÉ , Sponsor of the ceremony.

In his opening statement, Professor Saliou TOURÉ, Founding President of the "Société Mathématique de Côte d'Ivoire" SMCI, commended the Head of State and his government for their invaluable support provided to his institution and for all the actions intended to improve the national education system.

Then, he welcomed all the partners of SMCI, particularly the Managing Director of PAA for his unfailing commitment to the emergence of a scientifically developed Côte d'Ivoire. "I would like to emphasize, with respect, your remarkable commitment to instilling in our youth the value of excellence without which it cannot have any development. Thank you for your legendary availability," he stated.

By continuing, SMCI's President underlined the importance of the contest, given the influence of mathematics in all the branches of modern science and technology and in several fields of the economic, social, and cultural life.

 Before concluding, he invited the different winners to always aim far ahead and raise the flag of the Ivorian excellence to higher heights.

For the sponsor of this 18th edition of ‘’Miss Mathematics’’, Mr. Hien Yacouba SIÉ, the support of PAA confirms the commitment of the corporate citizen to the intellectual growth of Ivorian youth and more specifically of girls.

In his opinion, a developed and prosperous Côte d'Ivoire, a vision dear to the Head of State, requires sound values of competence, excellence, and hard work. PAA basically provides it support to the initiatives of "Société de Mathématique de Côte d'Ivoire" because the institution is in line with these values.

Mr. Hien SIÉ also expressed in his address, his warm congratulations to the initiators of the contest, as well as the overall players of the education system, and to the parents of the students.

 Addressing his goddaughters, he encouraged them to continue with effort and excellence so as to be role models for their friends and society.

The lucky winners of the 2024 edition come from several renowned schools. With regard to the 3rd year of high school, the crown was awarded to Miss YAO Trésor from "Lycée Sainte Marie de Cocody." For the final year of high school in the science, the Golden Palm was awarded to Miss KOUAME Amenan from "Lycée Scientifique de Yamoussoukro."

Launched in 2000, the year of Mathematics decreed by UNESCO, the Côte d'Ivoire's Miss Mathematics contest is intended to encourage young girls to be science oriented in general and mathematics oriented in particular.

The 18th edition which started on 06 March 2024, with the written exam on 04 May 2024, gathered 638 girls, to compete against one another. This number has increased compared to the previous edition which recorded 505 participants. This demonstrates the growing interest in this contest.

In respect of rewards, Abidjan Port Authority made several financial donations and donation of computer equipment, among others.

Moreover, as part of the partnerships signed on 27 April 2023, the Abidjan Port Authority gave a cheque for 25 million CFAF to SMCI. This annual financial support is expected to last up to 2027.

Note that within the framework of its societal commitment, Abidjan Port Authority, has been undertaking regular actions to promoting excellence and for professional integration of young people (recruitments, training course, sponsorships), thus fitting within the vision of the President of the Republic, His Excellency Mr. Alassane OUATTARA, for the fulfillment of young people and the emergence of national champions capable of impacting development in Côte d'Ivoire.
