MARITIME AND PORT SECURITY AND SAFETY: EOLIS AGENTS TRAINED ON THE MANAGEMENT OF DANGEROUS GOODS
The Human Resources Direction of the Abidjan Port Authority (PAA) has organized a training seminar for eleven (11) agents of the company EOLIS on the theme "Management of dangerous goods" as part of its strategy to strengthen the capacities of the actors of the Abidjan Port platform.
This training is in keeping with the policy of enforcing amendment 34/08 of the IMDG code (International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code), an international guide for the transport of dangerous goods in packages, which recommends the training of ground staff on the management of dangerous goods.
This seminar, which took place from 27 February to 10 March 2023, in the premises of EOLIS, enabled the participants, notably consignees, freight forwarders, handlers and transporters, to be informed about the risks linked to dangerous goods in order to apply the appropriate preventive measures to protect people, goods and the environment.
Through the modules given by Commander Alexis AMANI, Head of Department at the Direction of Maritime Operations, Safety and Environment of the PAA, the auditors were able to discover the regulations on dangerous goods, their classification, the method of packaging according to administrative and technical requirements, storage, labelling, marking and certification of packaging, as well as the road transport of these dangerous products.
At the end of the seminar, on Friday 10 March 2023, the auditors were given a guided tour of the Abidjan Port area, particularly the storage area for hazardous products at the Abidjan Terminal (TC1). After this visit, they were given parchments sanctioning the end of the training.
It should be noted that EOLIS is a shipping agency member of the Compagnie Fruitière group, which is in charge of the management of the fruit terminal of the Abidjan Port.
