NATIONAL PROJECT MANAGEMENT DAY: ABIDJAN PORT WINS EXCELLENCE AWARD FOR BEST CONSTRUCTION PROJECT
The 4th edition of Côte d’Ivoire’s National Project Management Day was held on Saturday, November 30, 2024, under the theme: “Successful Projects for Côte d’Ivoire’s Development.”
Organized by the Project Management Institute – Côte d’Ivoire. The Ivorian section of Projet Management Institute (PMI), a major worldwide project management community committed to promoting this profession. This event brought together professionals, experts, and stakeholders to share experiences and best practices in project management.
During a gala dinner at the Novotel Hotel in Marcory, the Abidjan Port Authority (PAA) received the Excellence Award for Best Construction Project of the Year. This award recognizes the outstanding commitment of Mr. Hien Yacouba SIÉ, the Managing Director of PAA, in spearheading major infrastructure projects at the port, including the construction of a new Grain Terminal inaugurated in May 2023.
Mr. FALLY Stéphane, Head of the Infrastructure and Project Management Department, accepted the award on behalf of the port.
As a recall, the Abidjan Port Authority, under the leadership of the Head of State his Excellency Mr. Alassane OUATTARA has undertaken, numerous transformational projects aimed at repositioning sustainably Abidjan port among high-performing ports on the West African Coast. Thus, several major projects have been successively undertaken: The Fishing Terminal’s pier inaugurated in 2015; the development of 40 ha additional land space through the landfilling of Vridi-Bietry Lagoon Bay which, since 2016 has enabled the setting up of new industrial units; the underpinning of the Bulk Terminal’s quay wall in 2017; the construction of the RORO Terminal commissioned in 2018; the widening and deepening of the Vridi Canal’s entrance inaugurated in February 2019; the construction of the second Container Terminal commissioned in December 2022 and the construction of a new Grain Terminal in operation since May 2023.
All these investments with a total cost exceeding 1100 billion CFA Francs enabled Abidjan Port to be more competitive and easily fulfill the demanding requirements of an ever-evolving maritime industry. The implementation of these projects has fostered the continued growth in cargo traffic which recorded 34.7 million tons in 2023 as against 28.6 million the previous year, an increase of 21.1%.
