THE PORT OF ABIDJAN AND THE DISTRICT OF ABIDJAN DISPLAY A NEW SHARED AMBITION AROUND THE “2030 SUSTAINABLE PORT CITY” AGENDA
On the occasion of the 20th AIVP World Conference on Cities and Ports, held from November 18 to 21, 2025, in New York, the Port of Abidjan and the Autonomous District of Abidjan reached a major milestone by officially formalizing, on Thursday, November 20, their joint commitment to the 2030 “Sustainable Port City” Agenda.
The signing ceremony, held following the AIVP Board of Directors meeting, took place in the presence of Mr. Édouard Philippe, President of the AIVP; Mr. Paulin Claude Danho, Minister and First Vice-Governor of the District of Abidjan; and Dr. Titi Palé, Director of Commercial Affairs, Marketing and Communication of PAA, representing the Managing Director, Mr. Hien Yacouba Sié.
Through this act, both institutions affirm a shared vision: to build a modern, attractive, sustainable and innovation-driven port city for the benefit of the population and the national economy.
On behalf of the Managing Director of PAA, Dr. Titi Palé commended AIVP for its continued support and emphasized the Port of Abidjan’s determination to align with the highest international standards in sustainable development, governance and logistics performance.
Founded in 1988 in Le Havre, AIVP is today the world’s leading platform dedicated to the sustainable transformation of port cities. Its expertise supports territories in developing resilient, integrated and competitive urban models.
An active member of AIVP for several years, the Port of Abidjan welcomed the official accession of the District of Abidjan to the organization. This institutional convergence injects new momentum into City–Port cooperation and creates the conditions for more structured joint action. The signing of the 2030 Agenda strengthens this dynamic by establishing a shared framework for developing projects that integrate urban modernization, innovation, environmental protection and lasting improvements to quality of life. Together, both institutions now have a clear roadmap for building a more sustainable, resilient and competitive port city model for the Abidjan metropolitan area.
This international reference framework commits both partners to implementing concrete, coordinated and measurable actions, positioning Abidjan as an African benchmark for sustainable port cities.
For the Port of Abidjan—West Africa’s major logistics hub and a cornerstone of economic and urban development for over 75 years—this commitment represents a strategic lever to accelerate the transition toward a more modern, greener and more territorially integrated port model.
By joining forces under the aegis of the AIVP, the Port of Abidjan and the District of Abidjan clearly affirm their ambition: to jointly promote a forward-looking vision that will make Abidjan a sustainable, inclusive and competitive port city, serving the international influence of Côte d’Ivoire.
