THE PORT OF ABIDJAN STRENGTHENS ITS MEDICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY THROUGH A NEW SANITATION SYSTEM

As part of its medical and social policy focused on the health, safety and well-being of its staff, the Port of Abidjan continues its efforts to provide a healthy and sustainable working environment. Certified ISO 14001:2015 for its environmental management system, the Port has equipped its Medical Center with a modern medical liquid waste treatment system, marking a new step forward in the protection of public health and the environment.

This innovative system, tested on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, is designed to ensure the effective and secure treatment of all effluents generated by the Medical Center’s activities: wastewater, biological liquids and medical residues. Through a comprehensive decontamination process, it eliminates microbes, pathogens and contaminants prior to discharge, thereby protecting soil, water resources and public health.

Two series of samples were collected: before treatment (raw waste) and after sanitation (treated waste). These samples, entrusted to the ENVAL laboratory, will make it possible to confirm the system’s compliance with applicable environmental and health standards.

Through this initiative, the Port of Abidjan reaffirms its commitment to integrating environmental considerations into its health and social responsibility policy. The Port’s Medical Center, a key pillar of this strategy, illustrates the Port Authority’s determination to ensure quality healthcare, exemplary hygienic conditions and responsible management of medical waste.

In doing so, the Port of Abidjan positions itself as a benchmark in sustainable governance, combining health excellence, environmental performance and social responsibility in the service of the port community and national development.
