THE RENOVATED SEAMEN'S CLUB IN ABIDJAN HAS OPENED ITS DOORS
After several months of renovation work, the SEAMEN'S Club of Abidjan is back to its former glory. The official opening ceremony was held on Tuesday 28 May 2024, in the presence of Mr. Hien Yacouba SIÉ, Managing Director of the Abidjan Port Authority (PAA), and several heads of companies and institutions operating on the port platform.
Located in the commune of Treichville, the SEAMEN'S Club is a tourist resort offering a pleasant living environment for seafarers calling at Abidjan. The complex is also open to the public with a range of services.
After 60 years of existence, the complex needed to be renovated and refurbished to improve the quality of its services and enhance its appeal.
In her opening address, Dr Titi PALÉ, Director of Sales, Marketing and Communication at the PAA, thanked all those involved in the Port Community for attending that ceremony. She also gave the reasons for the renovation. "With the advent of the socio-political crisis that hit Côte d'Ivoire in 2010, and which had a direct impact on the lack of investment in the port infrastructure, the building fell into disuse. The gradual return of economic activities in the port area, which at the same time increased competition between guest establishments, has exacerbated the decline in attendance at SEAMEN's Club and its productivity," she said.
On completion of this work, SEAMEN'S Club now offers a range of services, including short and medium-stay accommodation, sporting activities (swimming, tennis, fitness, aqua fitness) with professional coaches, children's play areas, function rooms and an event service for all types of ceremonies, and a restaurant targeting both businesses and individuals of the port area and beyond.
The opening ceremony enabled guests to discover the innovations brought to the site by the new management company, Société Ivoirienne d'Hôtellerie (SIH), and ended with a lunch hosted by the Port Authority.
