STUDENTS FROM GUADELOUPE DISCOVER THE ABIDJAN PORT
On 30 October 2023, students from ASFO, the Guadeloupe Work-linked Training Centre, accompanied by their director, Mrs. Penda DEMBÉLÉ MARIE, were able to discover the Abidjan Port as part of an educational prospecting mission.
The delegation was received in audience by Mr. Hien Yacouba SIÉ, Managing Director of the Abidjan Port Authority (PAA).
According to the Director of ASFO, the purpose of the visit was to enable the agency's student employees to find out about business opportunities in Côte d'Ivoire, particularly in the port sector, with a view to making them available to the Union des Entreprises de Guadeloupe, which is part of the Mouvement des Entreprises de France (UDE-MEDEF-Guadeloupe business union-the French business confederation).
During the audience, the port authority gave a presentation on the new configuration of the Abidjan Port following a decade of modernisation and upgrading work on its infrastructure. The presentation was followed by a highly instructive discussion for the guests.
The students, most of whom were Master 2 students in Management and International Trade (MCI), showed a particular interest in the second Container Terminal (TC2). After the discussions, they were given a tour of the port facilities, with a special stopover at Côte d'Ivoire Terminal, the concession holder for TC2. The visitors discussed a number of issues with the company's management, including the positioning of the new container terminal in the logistics chain.
At the end of this immersion visit, Mrs. Penda DEMBÉLÉ MARIE expressed her satisfaction with their visit to the Abidjan Port, which she justified by its position as a reference hub port on the Atlantic coast of Africa. It was therefore timely for her students to learn more about this important infrastructure, which is also a real tool for regional integration. In conclusion, she added that this visit would also help to stimulate trade between Africa and the Caribbean.
The 21-strong delegation, including 18 students, would stay in Côte d'Ivoire until 07 November.
