World Bank Delegation Meets with Abidjan Port Authority to Discuss Urban and Port Mobility Challenges
On Thursday, June 26, 2025, an informational and working session was held at the Abidjan Port Authority (PAA) between a delegation from the World Bank—led by Mr. Jean-François MARTEAU, Transport Sector Director for West Africa and the Sahel—and the Managing Director of the PAA, Mr. Hien Yacouba SIÉ.
This meeting was part of a technical collaboration effort aimed at identifying concrete solutions to decongest the Abidjan port zone and improve urban traffic flow. The Port Authority presented its recent advances in road infrastructure, along with a set of related projects designed to enhance the port’s accessibility and logistical efficiency.
The proposals discussed included the development of lagoon transport using barges, the creation of new operational areas from port land reserves, the construction of additional roadways and a tunnel, the establishment of an intermodal station for the city of Abidjan, and the modernization of the railway network.
Both parties acknowledged the strategic significance of the proposed projects, both in consolidating the Abidjan Port’s competitiveness and in strengthening the country’s overall economic dynamics. At the conclusion of the discussions, it was agreed to further explore the development of a joint program focused on significantly improving urban and port traffic flow. This program will be designed to meet criteria of efficiency, sustainability, and territorial integration, and will be formally proposed in the near future.
