The 59th edition of the Paris International Agricultural Show (SIA), which started on 25 February at Paris Expo, Porte de Versailles, ended on Sunday 5 March 2023.
Placed under the theme "Agriculture, the Living in Everyday Life," this international meeting of the agricultural world was an opportunity for Côte d'Ivoire to promote its agricultural, fishery and forestry resources.
The Abidjan Port Authority, the "Driving force of the Ivorian economy" and a key logistics platform for foreign trade, took part in the show to present its potential and investment opportunities.
The Ivorian delegation was led by the Minister of State, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Kobenan Kouassi ADJOUMANI, the Minister of Animal and Fishery Resources, Mr. Sidi Tiémoko TOURÉ and the Minister of Water and Forests, Mr. Laurent TCHAGBA.
Côte d'Ivoire was honored on Thursday 2 March 2023, through a day dedicated to it. One of the highlights of this day was the ministerial conference held on the theme, "Ivorian Agriculture in the Face of External and Internal Crises: Prospects for Taking up the Challenge of Food Sovereignty".
Taking the floor, the Director of Cabinet of the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Nouhoun COULIBALY, on the one hand, presented the agro-forestry potential of the country and the reforms undertaken by the Ivorian government to modernize agriculture and promote local processing of products, but on the other hand, he addressed issues related to the agricultural economy in a context of climate change and multiple crises, including the war in Ukraine. Mr. Nouhoun COULIBALY also presented to the investors the opportunities in the Ivorian agricultural sector, notably the establishment of agropoles and the adoption of measures to increase the competitiveness of agriculture.
During the exchanges with the participants, the Minister of State, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Kobenan Kouassi ADJOUMANI, indicated that his country is committed to the preservation of the environment through modern agriculture. However, he said he was in favour of all innovative agricultural initiatives in terms of techniques, technology and research.
As for the Minister of Animal and Fishery Resources, he focused his speech on self-sufficiency in quality animal and fishery products, in the face of the challenges of employability of the youth. While addressing the challenges of the sector, he also presented the national policy for the development of livestock, fisheries and aquaculture, which aims to meet the challenge of food sovereignty.
The ministerial conference was attended by several personalities including the Minister-Governor of the Lakes District, Mrs. Raymonde Goudou COFFIE, the Ambassador of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire in France, Mr. Maurice BANDAMA, and officials of the Ivorian agricultural administration.
In addition to being a true forum for exchange and information, the SIA is also competitions, tastings, the discovery of specialties from various countries, not to mention numerous events. The 2023 edition recorded the participation of several producers, players in the food industry, breeders, and more than 4,000 animals from 350 breeds (sheep, cows, goats, billy goats, ewes, rabbits, fish, pigs...).
As in every edition, the SIA has a muse. This year, it is Ovalie, a robust and hardy Salers cow.
It’s worth noting that the 60th edition of the SIA is scheduled to take place from 24 February to 4 March 2024, at Paris Expo.
