On Thursday, July 16, 2026, the Managing Director of the Abidjan Port Authority (PAA), Mr. Kassoum TRAORE, attended the awards ceremony for the winners of the 20th edition of the Miss Mathematics Competition, held at the Palais de la Culture in Treichville, in the presence of representatives of the Minister of National Education and Literacy, Mr. N’Guessan KOFFI, and the Minister of Infrastructure and Road Maintenance, Mr. HIEN Yacouba SIÉ.
This partnership, initiated in 2022 under the leadership of Mr. HIEN Yacouba SIÉ, then Managing Director of the Abidjan Port Authority, is ongoing today under the leadership of Mr. Kassoum TRAORE, reflecting the institution’s commitment to continuity and sustained support.
PAA was commended by the Mathematical Society of Côte d’Ivoire (SMCI) for its continued commitment to promoting young girls in scientific fields.
In his address, Mr. Kassoum TRAORE reaffirmed that mathematics is a key driver of innovation and performance in port operations, particularly in operational planning, logistics flow optimization, infrastructure management and digital transformation. He also encouraged the winners to pursue their ambitions and contribute to the development of Côte d’Ivoire.
On this occasion, the Abidjan Port Authority renewed its support for the SMCI with a contribution of CFAF 25 million towards the organization of the 21st edition of the competition. The institution also rewarded the top-performing winners, including a CFAF 1 million prize for Miss Mathematics Terminale C (senior year) and a CFAF 500,000 prize for Miss Mathematics 3ème (3rd grade secondary school), along with various in-kind donations.
In recognition of its sustained commitment to promoting scientific excellence, the Abidjan Port Authority was presented with a Special Award by the Mathematical Society of Côte d’Ivoire (SMCI), in recognition of its outstanding contribution to the organization’s activities and operations.
This anniversary edition brought together nearly 700 candidates from the 41 Regional Directorates of National Education. The 2026 Miss Mathematics titles were awarded to Miss YAO Ya Urielle, a 3ème student, and Miss DAKOURY HouenonEliora, a Terminale C student.
Through this partnership, the Abidjan Port Authority reaffirms its commitment to education, the promotion of excellence, and the emergence of a new generation of young female scientists who will contribute to the sustainable development of Côte d’Ivoire.
